SUMMARY:Lunch with Sam Posey
DESCRIPTION:Drive Toward a Cure will be popping into Lime Rock Park in Connecticut on Thursday October 10 to help the Motorsport Hall of Fame celebrate inductee Sam Posey. \nSam Posey needs no introductions – his work in motorsports is legendary\, he’s set records aplenty and raced with the best of them being one of the best himself.  In his post driving years\, he worked as a racing commentator and journalist.  Some don’t know that he’s also a talented painter and architect – he actually earned a BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design.  He’s also authored a few books.  In a way\, he’s a modern renaissance man.  In 1995\, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease\, but continues to inspire with enthusiastic charm and a driven desire to soldier on\, to accomplish and to achieve.  Lime Rock Park will honor him and celebrate him on October 10\, and our friends at Drive Toward a Cure will be routing their Tour that way to partake in the celebration.  Learn more about it all here

Fans will instantly recognize the lime green No. 14 Dodge Avenger\, which won three times with three drivers from three different disciplines: F1’s Martin Brundle\, NASCAR’s Dale Earnhardt Sr.\, and INDYCAR’s Al Unser Jr. However\, it will be the car’s final driver who will get to reunite with it at Lime Rock Park—Mark Martin. \nOf course\, there will be cars that were driven by not only the best names in motorsport\, but also those of Hollywood fame. The School Bus Yellow No. 15 1978 Chevrolet Camaro was driven to victory lane by both Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip\, as the two NASCAR Hall of Famers were among 31 drivers who turned laps in the car. However\, that count doesn’t include actors Paul Newman\, Clint Eastwood\, James Brolin and Gene Hackman\, who enjoyed a private test day in the car at Sonoma Raceway in December 1977.

SUMMARY:The Mob Museum Celebrates the Return of F1 to Vegas!
DESCRIPTION:Oct. 26 Program Spotlights Auto Racing in the Neon City  –The Mob Museum\, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement\, is celebrating the return of the Las Vegas Grand Prix with a public program about the history of auto racing and racketeers in Las Vegas. \nThe program\, titled “Racing and Racketeers: Motorsport and Organized Crime in Las Vegas\,” will feature two local experts: racing historian Randy Cannon and retired casino executive Bill Weinberger. It is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday\, Oct. 26. \n \nFittingly\, as the elite international racing circuit returns to Las Vegas for the first time in 40 years\, this program will explore the history of auto racing in the entertainment capital of the world – and the Mob’s role in making it happen. Cannon and Weinberger will look back at the Stardust International Raceway in the 1960s and the Caesars Palace Grand Prix in the early 1980s. They also will discuss the ties between organized crime and past eras of Las Vegas racing glory. \nThe hosts certainly are experts in this field. Cannon is author of “Caesars Palace Grand Prix: Las Vegas\, Organized Crime and Pinnacle of Motorsport\,” while Weinberger is former president of Caesars Palace. \nThe program is free for Museum Members or with Museum admission and can be livestreamed by visiting the webpage here. \nABOUT THE MOB MUSEUM \nThe Mob Museum\, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement\, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization\, provides a world-class journey through true stories—from the birth of the Mob to today’s headlines.
