SUMMARY:MICHAEL R. ARGETSINGER SYMPOSIUM ON INTERNATIONAL MOTOR RACING HISTORY
DESCRIPTION:The International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC) is again partnering with the Society of Automotive Historians (SAH) to present the Seventh Michael R. Argetsinger Symposium on Motor Racing history. The event\, geared to both motor racing scholars and racing enthusiasts\, will take place on Friday and Saturday\, November 3 and 4\, 2023. In conjunction with the on-site sessions in Watkins Glen\, open to the public at no charge\, the Symposium hopes to provide virtual capability to allow remote attendance and participation for a modest fee. Over the last several years the Symposium has established itself as a unique and respected scholarly forum and has gained a growing audience of students and enthusiasts. \n \nThe Michael R. Argetsinger Symposium provides an opportunity for scholars\, researchers and motor racing writers of all descriptions to present their work related to the history of automotive competition and the cultural impact of motor racing to their peers and to the motor racing community in general. \nClick here for the Call for Papers. Abstracts are due by August 4\, 2023.

SUMMARY:16th International Reel Wheel Film Festival: “Celebrating Historical Racing Documentaries”
DESCRIPTION:The IRWFF was curated by Thomas Schmeh of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum in Knoxville\, Iowa\, from 1999 through 2013. It celebrated the automobile and auto racing in film for those 15 years. The festival is being revived as a kick-off to the seventh annual Michael R. Argetsinger Symposium on International Motor Racing History. The IRWFF\, again curated by Auto Racing Research Associates (ARRA) contributor Schmeh\, will be held in the Watkins Glen Elementary School auditorium\, adjacent to the IMRRC. This year’s film festival theme is “Celebrating Historical Racing Documentaries\,” with “Stateline Speedway (Busti\, N.Y.): The First Ten Years (1956-65)” by producers Randy Anderson\, Greg Peterson and Randy Sweeney being the first film announced. \nNovember 2nd – International Reel Wheel Film Festival: “Celebrating Historical Racing Documentaries\,” 5:00 p.m.
