Leipert Motorsport entered the fourth race weekend of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe at the Nürburgring from 28 to 30 August with four cars. Changeable weather conditions, ranging from rain and strong winds to sunshine, presented drivers and team with a constant challenge throughout the weekend. With consistent performances and impressive overtaking manoeuvres, the #44 of Månz Thalin and Axel Bengtsson rounded off the home event with an excellent podium finish.
In free practice, the #75 of Hairie Zairel Oh and Chris van der Drift in particular demonstrated strong pace, finishing second in both sessions. All four Leipert Lamborghinis also showed competitive performance in qualifying and secured solid starting positions for the two races.
A puncture caused by contact dropped the #44 down the order early in the first race and forced the duo to make an additional pit stop, putting a deserved podium finish out of reach. Sunday proved to be a different story. Bengtsson made a strong start and worked his way up to P5 before the pit stop. Following a quick stop, Thalin took over the car in a promising position and fought his way up to an excellent third place, which he safely brought home. The Swedish duo were rewarded with a well-deserved podium at Leipert Motorsport’s home race.
Both drivers made their first appearance at the Nürburgring and also celebrated their GT racing debut after making the transition from singleseaters. Diaz and Wolfe showed a steep learning curve throughout the weekend and, with eighth and seventh place in the Pro class, made a solid start to their Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe campaign.
After convincing performances in free practice and narrowly missing out on pole position for Race 1 due to a track-limits infringement, the #75 confirmed its pace in the opening race with fifth place in the Pro-Am class. The #75 was once again running strongly on Sunday. Zairel Oh delivered a convincing opening stint before handing the car over to van der Drift, who gained further positions with a series of overtaking moves. However, the charge came to an abrupt end at the restart following a Safety Car period, when contact left the car unable to continue.
Despite the changeable weather conditions, Henri Tuomaala and Matias Salonen safely brought the #88 home in sixth place in the Pro class in the opening race. In Race 2, Tuomaala laid the foundations with a faultless opening stint before handing over to his teammate. Salonen then gained several positions with a series of impressive overtaking moves, before a Safety Car period followed by a red flag prevented any further progress. The Finnish duo ultimately finished fifth in the Pro class.
